- Where does Tacoma Trekker's traffic information come from?
- Traffic flow, highway alerts, camera images, travel times, mountain pass conditions, roadside weather readings, toll rates and ferry information all come from the Washington State Department of Transportation's Traveler Information APIs. Tacoma Trekker is an independent Tacoma visitor guide and is not a government transportation agency.
- Which Tacoma highways are covered?
- The pages focus on the corridors visitors actually use around Tacoma and Pierce County: I-5, SR 16 across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, I-705 into downtown, SR 7 toward Mount Rainier, SR 167, SR 512, SR 509, and nearby routes such as SR 302, SR 163, SR 410 and SR 161 where WSDOT publishes data.
- Are the traffic cameras live video?
- No. WSDOT publishes still snapshot images that refresh periodically. Tacoma Trekker shows those snapshots and you can request a fresh set, but they are not a continuous video stream.
- What happens if the WSDOT feed goes down?
- The page keeps working and says that current WSDOT data is temporarily unavailable, with a link to the official WSDOT page. No condition is ever estimated or invented to fill the gap.
- Does this cover roads inside Mount Rainier National Park?
- No. WSDOT reports on state highways up to the park boundary. Roads inside Mount Rainier National Park, including the road to Paradise, are reported by the National Park Service, which Tacoma Trekker shows separately in the Mount Rainier guide.
