48 Hours in Tacoma: A Two-Day Visitor Itinerary
Two days is the sweet spot: one day downtown and on the water, one day north through the parks and neighborhoods.

Day one, morning — downtown museums
Begin at the Thea Foss Waterway and the Chihuly Bridge of Glass, then give a full couple of hours to one museum. If you want two, the Museum of Glass and the Washington State History Museum are next door to each other.
Day one, afternoon — Stadium and the bluff
Walk or ride north into the Stadium District. Stadium High School's castle facade sits above the bay, and Wright Park's conservatory is a short detour. This is a good stretch of easy walking between lunch and dinner.
Day one, evening — Sixth Avenue or the waterway
Sixth Avenue is the casual, late option. The Foss and downtown are the walkable option if you are staying nearby. Check what is on before you commit — theatre, comedy and ballpark nights change the plan for the better.
Day two, morning — Point Defiance Park
Give the morning to Point Defiance: the Five Mile Drive loop, forest trails, the gardens, Owen Beach. The Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is inside the park if you have children along.
Day two, afternoon — Proctor
Proctor is a few blocks of bakeries, restaurants and shops on a residential grid, with a farmers market on Saturdays in season. It is the most pleasant place in Tacoma to spend an unstructured couple of hours.
Day two, evening — Ruston Way
Finish along the bay. If it is clear, stay for the light on the water and the mountain.
Rain plan
Swap the Point Defiance morning for a second museum and spend the afternoon in Proctor or on Sixth Avenue. Very little of this itinerary actually requires sun.
