1. Stop 1 · Night before

   Stay the night in downtown Tacoma

2. Stop 2 · Early morning

   Early breakfast and coffee

   Allow time before the mountain drive

   Coffee and something to eat before the drive. Other published options include Bluebeard Coffee Roasters, Shakabrah Java and Valhalla Coffee Co. Confirm opening times with the business, since early hours vary.

   Fill the tank and buy water and food in Tacoma or on the way; food and fuel inside the park are very limited.

3. Stop 3 · Morning

   Drive to the Nisqually Entrance

   About 2 hours from downtown Tacoma in ordinary conditions

   Head south and east toward Ashford and the Nisqually Entrance, the park entrance that is open year round. An entrance fee or park pass is required. Check National Park Service road status and WSDOT conditions the morning you travel; in winter, tire chains may be required to be carried.

   Roughly two hours from downtown Tacoma without stops or heavy traffic.

4. Stop 4 · Late morning

   Longmire: history and a forest walk

   6.5 park miles from the Nisqually Entrance

   Stop in the Longmire historic district for the Longmire Museum and the short Trail of the Shadows loop across the road. Twin Firs Loop, a few minutes back down the road, is a quick old-growth forest walk.

   About 20 to 30 minutes inside the entrance.

5. Stop 5 · Midday to afternoon

   Paradise: meadows and mountain views

   12 winding park miles from Longmire; allow extra time

   The main event: the Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center, subalpine meadows, and short walks such as Nisqually Vista or Skyline to Myrtle Falls. Snow can linger into summer and parking fills on clear weekends.

   Arrive early on weekends. Dress for weather colder, windier and wetter than Tacoma.

6. Stop 6 · Late afternoon

   Reflection Lakes on the way out (seasonal)

   Short detour only when the connecting park road is open

   When Stevens Canyon Road is open, Reflection Lakes is a short stop below Paradise with a classic mountain-and-water view. This stretch is seasonal: verify road status before counting on it, and simply return the way you came if it is closed.

7. Stop 7 · Evening

   Dinner back in Tacoma

   Allow about 2–2.5 hours back to Tacoma before traffic or stops
